Generation Now Update: Student Building Update
A few weeks ago, we reported that the Carmel Family had pledged $3.45M toward a Student Building. This was less than the $4.7M needed. However, because of the strong participation by the Carmel Family and the fact that we were getting close to the needed amount, the Elders decided to go back to the Building Committee and architects to see if there was a way to bring the price down. The Building Committee is close to completing that work and, though we do not have the exact figures yet, we’re confident we can reduce the cost by making a few changes to the structure and scope of the project as well as due to reduced construction costs. We need a few more weeks to complete the work, but we will report back to you as soon as possible. We feel that it will be good news and that we will be able to move ahead toward approval by the church family.

    Regarding your decision to pledge for this effort:
        - If you are already giving to the For His Kingdom campaign related to the new education wing that ends in October 2008, please consider continuing your giving for an additional three years. In this case, you will not start your Generation Now pledge until November 2008.

  •     - If you did not give to the For His Kingdom campaign, please consider a generous pledge to this new effort. 

  •     - Be sure to turn in your pledge because we will only build with the funds raised. We will not incur any additional permanent debt in order to build this facility, and we will not factor in an estimate of non-pledged giving in order to determine how much to build.

    Cost estimates:

  •     - At a future date, the Building Committee will return to the church with a guaranteed maximum price. However, the following are the original estimated costs provided by our contractor (Edifice) including furnishings:

  •     - Total student center (Refinery) and multi-purpose space: $ 7,654,224 (34,284 square feet)

  •     - Student Center Only (Education and Community Space): $ 4,759,987 (22,944 square feet)
        - Multi-Purpose Space (Worship and Gym): $ 2,894,237  (11,340 square feet)
